The Mimiga’s only hope rests squarely on the shoulders of a quiet, amnesiac boy who can't remember his own name. Uncovering Mimiga Village, you discover that the once-carefree Mimiga are in danger at the hands of a maniacal scientist. You wake up in a dark cave with no memory of who you are, where you came from or why you're in such a place. Overflowing with unmatched charm and character, Cave Story takes you into a rare world where a curious race of innocent rabbit-like creatures-called Mimiga-run free. Cave Story is an action/adventure game from the critically acclaimed independent designer, Daisuke Amaya-or “Pixel” to his fans. I did bash the new one a bit in my post but my goal here wasn't to start a debate, it was to share something useful with people who already agree with me.Arguably the most well-known indie game of all time, Cave Story features a completely original storyline wrapped with personality, mystery and hours of fast-paced fun. However, lots of people like the new translation and others just don't give a shit either way. I'm clearly not the only person who feels this way. Cave Story is a freeware sidescrolling action/adventure/platformer title with leanings towards Wonderboy and recent sidescrolling Castlevania titles. ![]() The translation was much more accurate than the unofficial fan effort that came before it, but fans of the unofficial one were very disappointed that all of the jokes and innuendos that made the script enjoyable were missing, because they were all the work of the DeJap, who first brought the SNES version to Anglophones. For example there was a port of Tales of Fantasia for the GBA for a while ago. As for the authenticity, I don't think a lot of people who can't read Japanese really care. I've beaten the Aeon Genesis version several times and I've grown fond of the dialogue. To me, the Nicalis translation is shitty because I'm very biased now. It just comes down to messing with something that people have become familiar with. Now, I don't speak/read moonrunes, so I can't verify this for sure. On top of that, since it's allegedly the "more accurate" translation, AG could very well have taken some liberties with the script. Nicalis couldn't license the fan translation. Also, Nicalis didn't "decide to do a new one". He and the Kool-Aid man share an affinity for busting through walls, so I think it fits. A few changed names here and there, but it's not the game-destroying catastrophe people make it out to be.Īnd honestly, I like Balrog's "OH YEAH!" more than "Huzzah!". Same story, same locations, same characters, etc. ![]() I mean, if it was just a BAD translation full of engrish, then I could see how it's shitty. Most of the changes are negligible, and Nicalis has even stated that the new translation is closer to what Pixel originally intended. I want an explanation that doesn't boil down to nonsense opinions or "they changed balrog's catchphrase!". What is SO WRONG about one over the other? Hoenstly. Also my existing saves continued to work fine.ĮDIT: According to someone else who tried this, the game is 100% completable.Īs someone who is 100% indifferent to what translation he plays, I ask this. I have not beaten the whole game with this modification but a few passages I tried all worked. Run, jump, shoot, fly and explore your way through a massive action-adventure reminiscent of classic 8 and 16-bit games. The script you know and love has been combined with the fancy graphics and new features of Cave Story Plus. Overflowing with unmatched charm and character, Cave Story takes you into a rare world where a curious race of innocent rabbit-like creatures, called Mimigas, run free. tsc files (Sort by Type helps) from there and overwrite the ones in your Cave Story Plus installation folder. Download your favorites WiiWare games Discover and play also the titles you didnt knew Cave Story (WiiWare). Find the CaveStory\data\stage directory wherever you installed the old Cave Story. Don't worry, it will not interfere with your Cave Story Plus installation. (Wii and 3DS people you are out of luck.) Simply download the Aeon Genesis version of Cave Story, or the Deluxe Package by Wadeizzle from. Fuck that.Īnyway it turns out you can very easily fix that in Cave Story Plus. Like, Balrog doesn't even say "HUZZAH!" any more. His translation was of fairly high quality, and arbitrarily changing it has probably alienated a lot of fans of the original Cave Story. So, I've been incredibly annoyed that Nicalis felt the need to create a whole new English translation of Cave Story when all of the English speaking fans already love the one provided by Aeon Genesis. Haven't been to this subreddit since I posted it's very first comment ever. ![]()
